WGU pre licensure program

Forums:

Hello everyone,
I am applying to the pre licensure program at WGU, I have everything done already, and I will have my interview with Joe the Prelicensure Team lead on Friday, I am very excited to start the program, but also very afraid and anxious, I really hope I can get in. My counselor said that the next cohort for the Los Angeles area starts in March 2012, so if everything goes well I wil be the happiest person alive if I get in and start in march. Is there anyone applying to this cohort? Does anyone know any other cohort starting earlier? if anyone has any tips for me, what should I do next, or if anyone that is already in the program has any tips, any info will be greatly appreciated!!!
What should I expect regarding the clinicals application, is the emotional intelligence test hard? What about the WGU?s foundational nursing skills performance assessment?
Thank you very much in advance!!!

Hi, I'm considering applying to WGU. I have a 4.0 in all the prereqs and am currently taking pathophysiololgy online. I was accepted into a BSN program that I can not afford to go to and would like to start my BSN this fall! My only concern is that even though I am a CNA I am currently unemployed and do not have a letter of reference from a health care employer to use.
Has anyone used a professor for a letter of reference? I am in CA if that matters.
I am in the Indiana cohort and I did not have a letter of reference from a health care employer (or for that matter any employer). I haven't been employed outside of the home in over 10 years. I used personal references instead- one from one of my former employees since I owned my own business and one from the school board at my kids school where I volunteer. They accepted them. I'd submit with professor and see what happens.

Anyone know what science class are considered for calculating science GPA for WGU. I remember my advisor say it was A&P micro biochem. But I am looking at my wgu eval and it also has nutrition and pharmacology under nursing related science?

Indiana clinicals are at VA hospital, Wishard, and Hancock Regional. I am hoping to be accepted for the August cohort!!

hi guys...need help with the application process.

to be considered for enrollment into the pre-nursing curriculum, you must meet the following requirements:

so, those are the 3 things needed for the initial application for the prelicensure??

so the long list below is for when you apply for the clinical program?? or do i send all the above together with all of below??
* must possess health insurance and obtain student malpractice insurance.
* must pass a criminal background check.
* must pass a urine drug test and a physical exam.
* must pass the emotional intelligence (eq) test and demonstrate the attributes of a successful nurse.
* must have a current immunization record and negative tb test.
* must meet the physical requirements in accordance with the core performance standards of the nursing profession.
* must provide a 1-2 page student statement that describes your prior experiences and reasons for pursuing a nursing career.
* must participate in an interview with nursing department representatives.
* must meet any additional wgu admissions requirements.

is it two letters or one? on the website it says one, but the generic message from the program director says two letters.

another question, does wgu have a form for the letter of recommendation? or does recommender just write the letter on their own letter head??

and how do we know when is the next cohort??

i have asked all these things and other questions through email twice, but my enrollment counselor, director of nursing, director of enrollment (because i got generic emails from them) but all of them failed to answer

thank you.

yes, you need these 3 things for initial enrollment. make sure you get cpr through the american heart association. they don't accept the red cross one even at the provider level - kind of annoying because i had to retake it.

these are done once you are accepted into the pre-licensure program.

for me, they wanted 2 letters of recommendation, preferably from a health care employer, but turn in what you can come up with. they also wanted a letter describing your prior experience and why you want to be a nurse. i also had to turn in a resume. they did not give a form for the letter of recommendation.

you'll have to ask on the cohort. i can't really figure out how they determine when they will start a new cohort. i know for me they started in indiana, i think the first was november, then january, then february, then not again until june. just kind of random if you ask me. i'd call instead of emailing. everyone at wgu has always been very helpful for me.

Thank you so much supermama, really appreciate all the info!!

One more thing I forgot to ask... Do I tell the recommenders to send letters directly to WGU or do I submit it together with the CPR Certification?

Thanks again.

thx for input , I assumed the same thing ,but I am going to find out.

has anyone heard anything about oct 1 cohort? my enrollment counselor is out on leave for a few weeks, so i feel so disconnected right now. the wait is really getting painful :-/

Hi nowitzki,

We had our skills lab at St. Francis Career College in Lynwood before, then we had our skills assessment at the WGU lab in Sta. Ana, i'm not sure if we'll be doing our labs at the same place or somewhere else. Our mentor said they will email us the details a week before Sept. 22 (our first lab) i'll let you know by that time

Ok Thank you very much for input

Greetings everybody,

Anyone get into October cohort yet? I'm still waiting to hear from my advisor...

I feel your pain... Still waiting myself.....

I GOT IN!!! ANYONE ELSE?!?! LETS MAKE FRIENDS! we will be stuck together for 2 1/2 years!

Congratulations!!! How long ago did you apply? Just curious :-)

I am still pending Microbiology, but everything else is in.

Well I've been in contact with them for about 2 years now, one of my fellow CNA classmates was applying and got in, but I had to finish all my science pre-reqs first. I applied in like April/may hoping to get into July but I missed it by like a week bc I finished micro but couldn't get them my grade fast enough lol. So once they got that in they put me in the pool for the Pasadena cohort

That's terrific! That darn micro. LOL! I am in the same boat.

Do you work at one of the partner hospitals as a CNA? I heard the Pasadena hospital is a great clinical site

Is the TEAS test required?

Thankyou

Thank you so much supermama, really appreciate all the info!!

Thanks again.

Have them send them to you. I had to scan all docs and email them to my enrollment adviser.

Is the TEAS test required?
Yes, I'd start studying for that now.

If you start directly with clinical, the website says it's 2 years. But enrollment counselor says it's 2 1/2 years. Does anyone know how long the program really is? I read somewhere that the first term is sort of like a "bootcamp" to learn CNA skills. What if the applicant already has a CNA certificate, does it make it 2 years?

Thanks

Hmmm, I thought my reply went through.

Anyway- To answer your questions, "yes" the program has changed from 2 years to 2 1/2 years.

Does anyone know what the minimum TEAS score is to be able to get in? I have taken it, but I only received a 70.7%. I am planning on taking it again, but all of the LA colleges are booked solid! How long did you guys who got accepted have to wait before you found out if you were accepted or not?

jxngirl

i think it was 65 or 67? It took me 3 weeks before i found out i got accepted. Are you done with your prereqs?

Greetings everyone. Has anyone found out yet if they've been accepted to WGU for the October cohort?

I am waiting to find out if I got accepted to the October cohort. My enrollment counselor said possibly in the next 2 weeks. That is their goal at least. So that way students have time to get everything together. The anticipation is starting to kill me!!

Hello !
I have a question , I'm living in L.A area as I understood clincals are being held at the local hospitals WHAT ABOUT LAB'S?
THX

I have no idea, I never thought of that, so its not a question I ever asked. I would assume a location around the area since oct 1 is pasadena. That is my guess. I dont think they would make it very far from there.

Unfortunately LA is the only area that I know the starting dates. So talk to them and say that you are willing to drive, the next cohort for LA starts in may!!! Good Luck!!!

Hi Fcat,

Thank you for the information. Micro ends April 29th, but final May 2 and of course the wait for transcripts from one school to the other, so I'm afraid it will be after May for me.

If they start fairly often, I will hope for the next cohort

Happy New Year!

Yeah I guess you will have to wait for the next cohort after may, since in order to get into the may start you have to get everything done way before the start time. Good Luck!!!

Thanks for all the great info and for the "good luck"

Crossing Fingers

Hi all

congrats to all waiting to get in, sounds like a good school. Does anyone know if you have to complete the 2 years if you already have a bachelors and have all the prerequisites done? or does it take a shorter time to complete?

thanks and good luck :-)

Hello all, I was just accepted for the March 2012 CSMC cohort! SO excited. Just wondering who my 9 classmates will be!!
Congrats to you all, look forward to meeting you!

Congratulations!!! Did you got a call or an email? Did you get accepted for the LA cohort?

Hey,did you got a call from them yet?they already started to call the people that got accepted! I haven't heard anything yet!

Hi stash11,

It takes the full 2 years even if you have a bachelors and the prerequisites done. Did you apply?

Hi

thanks for getting back to me :-), no I didn't apply they called me but I turned it down as I thought it was a waste of my time, I would rather do a one year program than spend 2 years of my time that I could spend working :-)
thanks again

all the best

No, I have not. Have you? Would you happen to know which three areas WGU is located? I know she said Long Beach, heart of LA and I'm not sure if its Pasadena or Pomona.

We are on the same boat, I haven't heard nothing yet, but I am going to call my advisor tomorrow to see if she knows anything. Well as far as I know the actual WGU is located in Utah!

Hi

don't worry, you'll get in too. I hate the waiting as well for my own school (accelerated, not this one), was supposed to start spring now have to wait for summer when I already worked my butt off (took 10 classes between September and December, go figure in order to make spring start), so the waiting starts for me too, I know I have a place just waiting to start the program itself, lol

good luck

hi stash11
just wondering what your 10 classes were and how did you take them so quick ?

thanks

Hi

I took them at 4 different schools and quadrupled on some :-)
first half of fall term: A&P I, took it alongside Chemistry and Lifespan (in addition to my current masters program) :-)
then second half of fall term took A&P II alongside Algebra, Microbiology, Intro Psych again in addition to my masters program that one is one class every 6 weeks
then just completed mini winter term: statistics, int. personal communication and pharmacology, made all As, except Lifespan and Chem made Bs in both, but still very happy,

thanks

wow.....thats a lot ...i couldn't even get in all those class if i tried at my local JC's .....did you the online or Local ?

I hate the wait as well, I even called my counselor twice today to see if she knew anything?. I am soooo nervous and afraid, I want to get in soooo bad that I am afraid!!! Well for those of you that can sit and relax Congratulations, and for all of us that still have to wait and ? for a good news, Good Luck ?!!!
