The Official 04/28/2012 MCAT

Forums:

I figured I should start this thread/support system. Good luck studying!

I'm using EK101 as an adjunct to the TPRH. I mean, TPRH only has like 60 or so psgs. I can't do 3 a day of those without burning through the material. It helps that I have a short term memory and usually forget passages about a week later (great for the actual subjects), but that will only last so long...so I use EK101 until a week before my 1st AAMC, then TPRH all the way. Plus, I have my passages from in class conpendium that I don't do because I'm saving them as well. THEY'RE much hard.er

.

37S.
Not quite what I wanted for MD/PhD, but I guess it's OK.

Gunner alert.

I was averaging a 30-31 on practice tests.
Actual test day sucked...I had to guess on what felt like soooo many questions since time was running out. I honestly feel like I scored 5-6 points below my average.
I'm so scared right now.

Just took AAMC 8 and got a 19
I felt that the physical was the toughest.. either way embarrassingly it is my 2nd highest score ever (behind a 24).
P6 V6 B7
I just want to get a 27 on my actual and go to a DO school, so far this seems impossible
I'll keep on studying my butt off until the 28th and I'll leave the rest in god's hands.

Honestly, I don't believe you guys. Next Wednesday you guys will come back and "Hey, oh my gah, I got a 40R" and similar stuff.

If I had even a 35R I'll be going streaking, through the quad, up to the gymnasium, Frank the Tank style. That's a promise.

spoilers - do NOT READ if you have NOT TAKEN AAMC11
PS: Passage VI requires you know angular velocity and momentum! TPR said NO YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW THIS. I was thoroughly ****ed over. Wow! Should I go back and read this tonight? I got it ALL right by using common sense and pi*2*r = distance, v=d/t...
I got #20 and #24 wrong so I'm gonna make a Q&A topic. The rounding on this was INSANE. 40=50?!
I made the most stupid mistakes. PE = mgh; for a liquid, pVgh. I forgot to multiply by H. LOL.

So true...
I've also been having MCAT flashbacks and nightmares. 27 more days.

OMG ME TOOOOOOOOOOOO.
I had another one last night, le sigh.
Ugh, this month will never end, will it?

One? I ****ing called 21 schools today on my day off. I suggest anyone who's aiming for the same things I am, start calling schools. It's about to get a whole lot bloodier and angrier than ever before.

Call about what??? What's this whole 0-6 thing about?

Nope, just ask the letter writers to upload them. When you're ready to send them to AMCAS you add your AMCAS ID number with the letters.
http://www.interfolio.com/blog/post.cfm/update-amcas-receiving-letters-electronically

And are you applying to AACOMAS as well right? If yes, is it similar to AMCAS or are the IDs really need to be attached in AACOMAS?

Yeah I don't think the survey thing is cool ColeSmalls, that's ****ed up trolling.

Have any of you guys finished TBR Physics ? What do you think about the last 2 chapters, i.e. the Electric Circuit and the Light/Optics chapter ? I remember that these topics were pretty understandable and doable when I took my undergrad Physics. For some reasons they become a lot harder in TBR. Seriously, I've been so frustrated when reviewing these topics that I just want to tear the book into pieces and set the whole thing on fire !

So 4/28 club I just took my first FL (AAMC 3) and got a 30... 10/10/10 was the breakdown. I'm really annoyed at my PS and BS score...I need to work on that ASAP

Hey friend. I'm in the same boat on AAMC 3 (12/9/9). Kind of a weird spread, goofed a lot on easy questions, PS was a joke??
30 is a good place to start, especially on AAMC's. GOOD LUCK!!

I had a bitchin' essay. I wrote about Mad Men =D

Mine was terrible.

...

GOT time, that will take my mind off it.

Just finished AAMC #8.. I thought the PS was really hard. My scores decreased since #7 as well. (#7: 32, #8: 31). Hopefully the last 3 aren't so difficult.

If I had even a 35R I'll be going streaking, through the quad, up to the gymnasium, Frank the Tank style. That's a promise.

+1

Screw it.
I took this test 28th too and I've been lurking around, figured it was time for me to join.
Ello everybody

Alright boys, time to start AAMC 11...wish me luck.

So true...
I've also been having MCAT flashbacks and nightmares. 27 more days.

Oh man...I didn't get anything from St. Kitts. Does that mean I got a 0-2-0
And yes...I do think Verbal was my best section unfortunately

Bahwahaha I feel you. At least you're getting letters? The Caribbean might be nice?

Lol 13

lol this is funny dudes. I was isolated in the room down the hallway. Darn ! Three of us should have got drunk together right after the test right ? We just missed a great opportunity to do that

Hey guys,
Is anyone selling their TBR books on here by any chance now that you guys are done?

Are you still interested? I have Physics and Genchem. And I'm selling them really cheap.

Dude, no offense but I feel like I see you fishing for details in every single MCAT thread.

Lol. Well the post test reactions are always useless so im always curious as to how people evaluate their tests.
Make no mistake, im 100% confident ill do fine. I'm not really that worried, im just waiting for the day to come so i can get it over with and not have to mess with it...I wish i had signed up for the may 12th instead of the 24th but it seems dumb to waste over a hundred dollars just to change to a 12 day earlier test. I even wish i did this test date. Cause now im just bored.
I absolutely love these threads. The paranoid posts are amazing. 3/4 of the people in this thread will probably score higher then they realize. The real curve is probably overall even better then the one for aamc 11.
And I only troll you nervous nellys because i love you duh

I had a bitchin' essay. I wrote about Mad Men =D

I wrote about American idol in one of my essays. I HATE AMERICAN IDOL! And I HATED THAT DAMN ESSAY...
Are we allowed to mention things like that or is it a violation. It doesn't seem like anything bad...

lolwut

Your reaction is priceless. LOL

GOT time, that will take my mind off it.

S02E09 was ridiculously good. RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. You will watch it like three-four times guaranteed.

Okay, let's start the running dialogue on AAMC7.
PS:
Passage IV; no idea what was going on. At all. I marked all the questions. Everything else, I felt relatively okay on. What the FLYING F AT THE EARTHQUAKE PASSAGE. WHAT. THE. F. I also marked this passage. There better be a generous curve on this, otherwise, holy crapsticks. I was going to say a 11 on PS, but now with two passages...maybe a 9? Marked any and all I couldn't get from the first-get-go, so about 20.
Verbal: Achilles Heel ahoy! Double WTF. The passages here are WAY LONGER. WAAAAAAAAY LONGER than on any other MCAT I've come across. God damn, I'm expecting another 7. thumbdown
Writing: Blah blah, I got an S on my previous passage. All I need is above an N and I should be OK. These essays were weaker than my others, not sure what's going on. Dreading the hurt in the BS..
BS: **** this. I don't know what's going on. 90% of the **** I did here had no relevancy to what I studied or what I know.
Consequently; my score:
IMAGE(http://thehealthscience.com/thsattachs/thsattachs1/http://i.imgur.com/WjfgH.png)
****ing ****.
After reading my PS mistakes, it was the earthquake passage. 3 wrong in there, and scattered ones inbetween. I'm kind of pissed at myself for being so close to a 30/40 (is that a 9 or a 10? If 30 is a 10, FFFF) in Verbal.
In BS I had NO IDEA what was going on and some of it doesn't make sense to me now. Gonna review after I eat, godDAMN TI you better know your **** inside out because I switched from "right" to wrong answers for BS and it got me like CRAZY. I should have gotten 46 or so.

I'm holding out hope that this will be the case. I can't remember the test, so I'm telling myself that I did well. My advisor tells everyone to sign up for another test date as soon as possible just in case. If I do well, then I can simply cancel and lose a little money.

Why not wait until the score is out ?

Just went to my university today, and was planning on asking two professors today. Coincidentally, all 4 professors were on campus at the time, so I asked each of the four for a letter and they all said they are more than happy to write me one and wished me luck on my applications.
Next up, MD physician tomorrow at the hospital.
I just hope the MCAT does not disappoint.

around 2003 the 5 year bachelor's program in pharmacy was done and changed to a 6 yr pharm doctorate program

My memory was a bit rusty. I misunderstood between the 2.

when can we register again? I don't think I did so hot so I want to give it another shot in July

Yeah...I need to beef up on bio it should be my strong point idk what happened

Yeah dude, if you've been doing TPR...Bio was a joke, I finished with half an hour and re-went through all 7 passages. Not trying to be a dick, but I am serious. I ended the exam with 15 mins left after trying to justify all my answers...what exactly did you get wrong?

****kkkk me I spent WAYYYYY too much time studying physical sciences
Aamc 11: 35
Average: ~36
Real deal: 14/10/10 Q
Those ochem passages and that muscle question fu.cked me uuuupppp

I just woke up. Again. Has anyone checked thx?
I'm not checking my score im makin someone else do it

I wish all of you the best! Make sure you guys are applying early!

31/40 in EK101 test 12
There's hope

PS: Passage VI requires you know angular velocity and momentum! TPR said NO YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW THIS. I was thoroughly ****ed over. Wow! Should I go back and read this tonight? I got it ALL right by using common sense and pi*2*r = distance, v=d/t...

I think it is a smart idea to be comfortable with angular units. Its a good way to make simple kinematics look scary and confusing. EK1001 Physics questions 17 - 27 were helpful review.

Call about what??? What's this whole 0-6 thing about?

0-6 year PharmD programs. You apply in highschool and if you are accepted you are admitted directly into their pharmacy school. The first 2 years are "pre professional years" where you take the pre reqs for pharm school, then at the start of your 3rd year you start "professional school" which means you are now a first year pharmacy student, and this goes on for 4 more years for a total of 6. The people in these programs don't get an undergraduate degree, they simply get a PharmD and thats it. He's pissed off because a lot of schools won't recognize his PharmD for their undergraduate degree requirement because it's a professional degree.

Just curious. How will the format of the score report look like ? are there going to be score breakdown along with percentage of questions correct, percentile, average time for each question, etc, like the AAMC FLs or are there simply and coldly 4 numbers (i.e. composite and subsection) ?

I just looked it up to check. I thought that they only gave you te actually numbers for each section then your overall score but it shows a date and allows you to click the date and that breaks down the percentile ranges also. No information is provided about questions wrong/right tho. It's all just pretty basic. The main screen shows test date| VR | PS | WS | BS | TOTAL |. If you click on the link for the date it shows the percentiles.

when can we register again? I don't think I did so hot so I want to give it another shot in July

You can sign up again 24 hours after your test date

I had a bitchin' essay. I wrote about Mad Men =D

I wrote about the Charlotte Bobcats and a war in the 1700s that I made up

Just someone that has been wishing you guys luck for the past few days

I just realized that I had my first MCAT dream last night it went a lil something like this
I had done poorly on the 4/28 MCAT and I was on the testing site about to take the test and the proctor told everyone in the room that Medical Schools started accepting ACT scores now so we're actually going to take the ACT instead of the MCAT...as soon as he said that I woke up...only in my dreams huh? haha

Why not wait until the score is out ?

By then, all the dates will be filled. Even when I registered, the earliest that I could take the test in my state was July 26

spoilers - do NOT READ if you have NOT TAKEN AAMC11

I used 2pi r as well for that question. Don't waste your time on angular velocity and momentum. It's not on it.

I can't focus at all- was going to try and cram some orgo and do a practice problem from each EK1001 section- instead I had a beer with dinner and am done for the night. whoops. Have to work all day tomorrow so I guess that's it for studying. Getting pretty nervous again.

Lol 13

Okay I'm p. sure that's you now. It was me, you, and that blonde girl that were in that 3-person group. Niiice. haha. I don't know if you remember me though, was wearing glasses, bball shorts, and striped black/gray sweater.

Anyone feel like one prep company's problems was best for preparing for the types of questions seen for the 28th? Especially with Physical Sciences being calculation heavy. Best of luck to everyone with the application process! I'll be taking the beastCAT later in May so any pointers would be great!

This is my take on it:
PS: not too crazy really but weird AND what killed me: suuuuper calculation heavy. I mean , this is the most calculations I have ever have to deal with on any AAMC-made test. that translates in me working the last 2 passages and discretes with 10 min left.
VR: similar to AAMC but longer maybe?
BS: much orgo for my taste...weird passages...experiments up the a**...not too bad overall but could have been def better.
this sucks...
