I thought I did pretty well in the Reading Comprehension. Guess not.

Dr. Collin's material definetly helped with the Bio and Verbal. I should have focused more on the math and Chemistry practice questions. Time managenment is important as well as being exposed to PCAT styled questions.

That's crazy you got them already! I live in mid-Florida and I have not received mine. They're also not available for purchase yet on the person site. Congrats on your outstanding scores

thanks TnT. Good job to you too!
I read that scores were mailed out a couple of days ago ... so I wasn't expecting it until Saturday the earliest (aka still have time to relax before utter disappointment).
When I saw it in the mail today eek:lol), my arms started to tremble immediately. ughhhhhhh hate that feeling.

Hi, I'm from Illinois.
Also a first time taker, got my results in the mail...

Overall I'm happy with my numbers. My scores followed closely to what both my practice tests predicted -- but my verbal is lower and chem is lower. On the real exam, there were a lot of weird words on the verbal analogies that I wasn't familiar with (English is my native language). I'm kind of surprised with my bio score, since I felt like I was just making educational guesses on a lot of the problems (plus I have never taken a plant bio class...but then again I graduated with a bio degree). Writing is whatever, I never did the practice essays. I think I got a little lucky since one of the topics was something I wrote an essay about in high school.
Suggestions for people who will take the PCAT in the future:
1. Purchase the old exams and treat them like the real deal--especially the timing!! If you go over the time limit on the practice tests, you WILL go over it on the real exam. If this is the case, you need to develop a strategy for the real exam.
2. Eat a breakfast in the morning. Make sure you bring plenty of food and water to the test date. Do not set yourself to burn out during the exam.
3. Bring a hand watch and set it to 12:00 before each section. That way you will know how many minutes you have left.
4. Bring a mechanical pencil for the essay sections. It sucks to have your regular pencils become dull -- your hand only gets tired and fatigued = preventable loss of energy.
I'll post more if I think of anything else....

Great scores Hobbes! Congratulations!
I also agree that the Verbal section was really odd, especially some of the analogies. I was thinking, 'What type of an ingredient is this?' on one of the questions.

how do you guys know which score is which? are those the score under percentile rank?

pearson site is under maintenance....
we will be able to check our pcat results online soon.

Are you sure???

How long?? like 30 minutes or 1,2 hours???

I'm so exited....

after reading this thread i ran to the mailbox lol. i got my scores (i live in Miami, fl). i am happy, i went from a 58 composite to a 79!
still did bad on reading comp (37) but oh well. hopefully schools will look at my high chem/bio scores before that.

The site is still under maintenance! Maybe they will be available on the internet late tonight or tomorrow! Here's hoping!

can anyone helps me how to interpret the scores? im struggling to find out what are scaled score and what are percentile rank? which scores/percentile consider to be ok? cuz for now i'm so terrified to look at all these low numbers...

well 400 scaled scores= 50 percentile..

usually 425 composite scaled score is considered to be ok... which is the same as 80 percentile (approximately)

GOOD LUCK..!!!

so a score of 390 and percentile rank of 24, what does that mean?

Ok so 390 composite score is the average of scaled scores of all 5 sections..and 24 percentile means you performed better than 24 percent of students who took PCAT first time from 2004 to 2007..

so a score of 390 and percentile rank of 24, what does that mean?

Is that your composite score? If so, that means you did better than 24% of the people who took the exam over the last few years. Hopefully, that 24%tile is just for a section and it's not your composite since you really need somewhere around a 70%tile to be"competitive".

thanks chemguy. and I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. We are doomed to remember our moments of confusion forever.

that's my composite i'll have to take the test again in june then

I feel you annievu . I just got my score and I have a composite scaled score of 392, and percentile rank of 27.

Thank you Dr. Collins! I went from a 67 composite in August to an 86 this time around! I was so scared to open the envelope, so my girlfriend had to open it for me. Lol.

Can those who have received their scores post their sub test percentiles as well? Thanks!

Here are my results, just got them in the mail. First time test taker as well. You guys think this is good enough or should i take it again? Thanks

Not bad, studied with Dr. Collin's kit, but saw the whole package as a review, not as learning material.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Should I pay 20 dollars to see my score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what do yall think? I have already applied to pharm school and been accepted but not to my first choice yet! I need to do well to get in to my first choice!!!!!!

I don't understand what happen with my reading comprehension ?? I finished all but the 6th section.
Do you think I should ask to have it manually re-graded?

is this your first time gator? if so then sometimes it won't turn out like you predicted.
about the manual regrade... you should check and see if they allow you to only do this once.

This is my second time taking the PCAT. The first time, my quantatitative was a 7. I'm happy I got it up to what it is now. I just don't understand how my reading comprehension could be so low cause I knew most of the answers. I got to the 6th reading prompt when they called time and had to guess those but I'm still confused how I wound up with just a 10% RC...

Did anyone in GA received their scores yet? I live in GA but my mail doesn't come till 4

I got so caught up with my score improvement and forgot to post sub scores. I used only the Dr. Collins packets for review. The last exam that I got a 67 composite, I used the Kaplan. There was too much information in the Kaplan guide for me, and it was missing microbiology and ochem. I'm happy with my score though! Congrats to everyone on their scores. If you didn't do to well, study and it'll pay off. You can do it! Awesome scores Hobbes714!

my score isnt here yet, but i don't think I will have the guts to open it when it comes in. A lot is riding on this test score.

I FINALLY received mine today (Atlanta). It seemed that everyone else received theirs on Saturday and the mailman was just playing a mean trick on me. I was pleasantly surprised with the 25 pt. composite jump.

NOOOOOOO! Oh my gosh! I don’t believe this!
This was my third time taking the PCAT. I got a 26 the first time, and a 56 the second time. I didn’t study the first two times. So when I went to take the January one, I put all my classes on the back burner to study. I especially spent a lot of time doing reading and biology practice. For the Biology, I studied packets from Dr. Collins. I felt so confident about both the reading and biology sections. I finished both with plenty of time to spare. I thought I would get in the 90th percentile in Biology but I scored even lower than the second time! I went from a 61 to a 60 in Biology.
This was the third time I took it and I got a 58 Composite
I submitted my application material already and it looks like my chances of getting in are ruined. And now my grades for this semester are ruined too. AAHHHH! I still can’t believe all that studying didn’t pay off.
All of you guys who got higher than a 70 Composite should be really happy because I have no idea how to do it.

wow that's pretty funny. My friends and I make bets on bio exams (e.g. lowest score needs to buy drinks), so I kind of understand. Are you pre-med or pre-pharm? I took the MCAT too and I LOVED the PCAT in comparison to the MCAT..

Same as us! The lowest score buys the first round.
I actually am not pre-anything. I took the MCAT because 6 years ago I was going for my MD/PhD and decided I didn't really like the MD stuff and just finished up the PhD work. As I recall, the PCAT is much more enjoyable than the MCAT.

I donno about that 97% in verbal, you might want to retake that how were your essays?

4.0/3.5 for the essays the second time around, first time was 3.0/3.0

Wow, amazing scores!! But, wait, are you ALREADY a pharmacy student?(that's what your status is) and if you are.. lol... then you just took it to beat your friend?? (That's so epic)

I've been accepted to the school I wanted (so technically I'm not a Pharm student yet). The Jan. PCAT wouldn't have been able to be used for any of the applications though, so I took it to just have our final competition with my friend (he was taking it for real though). Because after this, we'll be in different schools/programs/years.
He was my buddy/rival since elementary school. He pwned me on the SAT's and MCAT (his 39 score > my 37 score), which in retrospect counts more then my 99% to his 97% composite.

I'll just say that I got a 29% jump.
Hopefully a composite of 60 is good enough this time.....
So if you know math, you would know what my other composite was at the time

Hey we didn't have time allotted after every section.. We had just 5 secs for the next section other than the 10-min break. Was it different at your test center? Thanks

Lol I fail at pacing myself in quant. Didnt get to fill out like ten to fifteen problems cuz I ran outta time but I guess I can't complain...

Wow! Congratulations! I took mine in Jan too but won't be getting my score until I go back home this weekend. By the way, how did you prepare for this one differently, considering that your score has increased significantly. Thanks

Hey how are your scores for the other sections?
I am a chemistry major but English is my second language. I will be finding out my score this weekend. I am just curious how the low score in reading comp will affect my composite grade. How was your verbal score? Thanks for your time

Guys I am so excited after getting my scores today. I have taken 2 pcats (24 & 26 percentile) prior to these. I did not prepare well for those tests. This time I used Collins study guide and prayed a lot. I studied during the christmas holidays. Now I jumped from 26% to 73%. I am happy with my scores. These are my scores
Verbal 73

Reading 12 (English is my second language)
Quantitative ablilty 82

Good luck to everybody.

Hey what is the actual point score for your reading section? English is also my second language and I totally felt that the reading section was a torture. I'm a chemistry major but I still think that those reading sections were way too abstruse for nonnative students. thanks for your time.

I could not be happier with my results!
Dr. Collins is the man!!!!

This is my third time taking the PCAT and I improved from 53 composite to 80. Dr. Collins and the Pcat Destroyer helped me a lot!!!! If I only used kaplan again, my score would've tanked. I would recommend using PCAT Destroyer and Dr. Collins.
Verbal: 50

I know that my reading is low. Do you think that this will hinder my chances of re-applying to pharmacy school. I applied in the 08-09 cycle and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in 09, but wasn't accepted. I decided to take a year off and work as a pharm clerk/tech, then re-apply in this up coming cycle

you might want to check each school individually because some programs REQUIRE a minimum score on each section of the PCAT (like a 25 for example).

Everyone is singing their praises to Dr. Collins! I did not know anything about this study packet until I came on here. I hope I still do well not using this miracle worker.
anybody use this packet thoroughly and still not do well? I want to know if there is a bias on here like how only the ppl who score well post their pcat scores.

Well I did well, but I DIDN'T use Dr. Collins. I bought the McGraw-Hill book and even though it completely mislead me on the math section, I still got an 87 composite. But there is definitely a bias in terms of people only posting there scores if they do well, so don't worry. Although there are low scores posted too.

has anyone scored higher than 3/3 on the essay component? it seems like the most difficult section to do well in.

Me! A 4.0/3.5 on writing.

Hey guys~ I just received my PCAT score today:
Verbal Ability: 14
Biology: 90
Reading Comprehension: 19
Quantitative Ability: 99
Chemistry: 88
Composite: 79
Writing: 3/3
It was my first time writing PCAT. English is not my first language, so I have no right to complain about anything. Sad.....
May I ask you guys a quick question? Does anyone know any Pharmacy school in US that only looks at Composite score and allows entrance for international students?

I just got my scores online and I am so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was my 3rd time taking the pcat and I used Dr. Collins Study Guide.
Chemistry 449 95
Quantitative Ability 438 91
Reading Comprehension 375 12
Biology 429 87
Verbal Ability 432 89
Composite 425 86

Hey did you use Dr. Collins study guide for reading comprehension? I didn't find it useful. There were some verbatum biology questions that appeared on the PCAT thou Can't wait to find out what I made
