Anyone know about Maryville's FNP program?

I am writing to see if anyone has attended or heard good things about Maryville University's FNP program? They are starting a new online FNP program next year, but am kind of leery because I am not able to find much about the program. Also, does anyone know where I might find FNP certification pass rates per university?

How long has it been for your statistics class?

It has been like a year or so and I took an undergrad course in it as well so I am statistics-ed out Glad that is over !!!

I hope that you get accepted. Please share with us about this being your second attempt at the advanced registered nurse practitioner program? I have applied to several schools until coming to MVU (Maryville). It is a hard road and one that takes dedication and hard work but we can do it.....

I applied & was accepted to Frontier May 2010. Classes began July 2010, I took 10 days of class & withdrew. It was SO difficult I cannot convey! That being said my baby was less than 1& I had just lost my father in law...... Too much.600 plus pages reading plus the assignments per class (3) & the papers not enough hours in the day. I completed my associate and bachelor of nursing online so I felt prepared butwas way off.

Sorry for the rambling...... But all of the above applied I feel the8wk terms are more for me & think Maryville will be a good fit now if I could just hear from them....How long did it take you all to find out if accepted?

Well Francis3 you had a lot going on in your life at the time. Well are you working full-time now anywhere? We must be devoted because it will be work but not impossible.

OK EVRYBODY: I just spoke with my advisor and she said that for the first semester we take two, 8 week classes one-at-a-time. (Spring) Second semester we take 2 at-a-time for 16 weeks and they usually overlap which helps. Third semester in the summer sessions we take 2 classes but one at-a-time. Then for fourth semester (Fall) we take a clinical/practicum course along with a theory/theoretical course which complement each other and at the same time. This path continues until graduation. We have a total of 46 credit hours total= 7 semesters long. The current cost of the program is $32,246, and I have $50,000 left before I max out my aggregate........I have just enough to finish to program. I hope that I can get a grant though for graduate nursing studies.....We are the second cohort (online class) that start on August 27th, 2012.......Also graduation then for those of us starting fall of 2012 is December 2014. Our advisors will send out course syllabii 2 weeks prior to each class....the advisors automatically enroll us in our classes (Yay!!). We have to maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the program. 1 C=probation. 2 C's=dismissal. D or below= dismissal. 30-50% of the work/assignments are group work. There are 15 classes total, 14 are 3cr hrs with the one being 4 cr hrs. That is the report that I just received today. I hope that this helps classmates !!!!

Hopefully we will all be in the same classes to assist with the group still surprise by us being the second cohort no ones feedback on the program has been posted from the first if we are taking 2 classes at a time later on does that mean we will regidter for 4 classes? I Hope not to go crazy.with lots of prayer and completing assignments ahead of time we should be fine.

Do not worry. I am pretty good at powerpoint presentations and writing and APA formatting and have the APA manual too!! I had an A- in undergrad nursing courses and a 4.0 in my just recently finished MA in Psych-Mental Health Administration program. I can help with team projects and keep everybody on cue. Fortunately I have no stats classes to bother with because I took them for my undergrad and in the masters program I just completed. No math......HHHOOORRRAAAAYYYY there !!!! Ok so prayer, dedication, and hard work and we'll make it through this just fine.

I spoke with my adviser today also and received FINALLY the class schedule for the entire program. I am pretty happy with it overall and for the most part taking one class at a time I think really makes it do-able. We will take NURS 600 Theoretical Nursing 8/27-10/21 and then Evidence Based Practice 10/22-12/16. Spring appears to be the only time we take two classes at once 1/14-3/10 Leadership and Quality and then N610 Health Promotion 3/1-5/5 and then the one 16 week class AP 1/14-5/5. That is the only class I am very concerned over because I had a tough time with A&P in my undergrad. I have the entire breakdown if anyone wants me to forward it let me know your email and will be happy too, mine is [email protected]. I didn't know there would be soo much group work especially because we can't really work together in person. But I like that we can share ideas and collaborate together to do assignments.. I am really excited to start!!!! I didn't get an email about the orientation yet so thanks for the link my adviser said it will have a lot of valuable info in it. We should get a welcome packet soon with all the info as well and my welcome call is not until Aug 17th!! But I will be happy as long as I get the packet soon. Also she said we can order books now through the website or not; they do not order them for us. I looked and we need 4 books for the entire semester which is not bad. I am going to buy them soon from wherever is cheaper and start reading and getting a jump start. I don;t know what section I am in yet, but all the sections require the same material. I also found out there will be about 100 of us in the program. I was surprised by how many. So I hope we are in the same section and can work together.

Wow thanks to those of you that have posted all the great info you have received from the advisors. My welcome call isn't until the first week of august. I'm planning on looking online for my books soon as several of you have mentioned. Definitely used for me to save some $$. Its great to see so many nice people will be in the program and I too hope we can all work together good luck to those still waiting to hear.

Does anyone have ISBNs for the books?

If you go to the Maryville online bookstore and pull up the fall classes you can find them under nursing 600 and 601. FYI-I found some good deals on too link to the bookstore >online programs> fall 2012> NUR 600 AND 601

isbn #
nur 600

NUR 601

I am heading over to now, I usually get good deals there too. I am only concerned about the Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing because it says with CD and Access and usually used books you buy online don't come with that stuff so I will have to look for that. Usually I don't mind not having the CD, but Access is probably a code we may need. Especially because its online courses I am worried we might need it. Good Luck finding good deals!!!!

look at it will compare all the stores for you.

Also for those of you who have been out of school for awhile...I just finished up my BSN and I didn't buy the new APA book, I just used Purdue OWL: APA Formatting and Style Guide and APA Style
All the information I needed was on those sites so I didn't have to go searching through a book!

Thanks for posting the ISBN numbers. I don't have the mine right now to purchase even the discounted rate so with my student account I just purchased the books and they are on the way. I am glad that I went back and looked on my student site because I remembered that we did have 4 books for the semester not 2. My total is $265 dollars for the 4 books. For the spring though I will have financial aid funds early so I will purchase our books (provided we won't need an access code) at the discounted rates and from the very helpful sites you posted !!!! Looks like we will have papers to do but I don't know if we will have multiple choice tests. I wished that I knew students from the program who can give us some insight here. I will ask my advisor though......

Yes I was wondering the same thing about the tests.I have read that other programs have tests and that they r timed per answer like 2 minutes or something and if u don't answer before times up it moves to the next question... But idk if that's what they do here or not. I bought the two books for the first half on and spent 46 dollars... Not bad. I will buy the other two in the next couple of weeks. But no rush because we don't need them until October.

Hi! I will be starting the FNP program May 6th of 2013...just wondering if you are still liking the school and some previous reviews that were not too good which makes me a little nervous. Thanks for any info!! Are you an online student?

hi bushrn75, I am unable to pm. could you email me at info at kevinbrown dot me?

is anyone starting a facebook page for students starting on May 6 of this year?

Hello there guys, for those who are starting classes on May 6th. I have created a facebook page:
Hope to hear from you guys. I am excited as well as all of you I bet.

I am a current student; pray to graduate Dec 2014.
There are no campus visits. I have yet to learn of conferences for any skills. I have asked quite often when the skills component will be obtained, i.e., advanced physical assessments and so on, but I have been informed that skills will be learned from clinical.

Cmunst45636 are you happy with the program so far?

This information is a little off topic, but I am in Maryville's BSN program, and it is very unorganized! Everybody tells you something different. It is very frustrating, because it is so expensive! You wou,d think the program woukd be seamless by now! It's not a new program, so I can only imagine how they would be for a brand new program. Kind of scary....

Hey all! I'm am thinking about applying for the Maryville program. What are your thoughts on how it prepares you? How are preceptor searches going??

I love Maryville! I have actually found a preceptor from my previous employer for adults. I will need one for women's and peds tho

Maryville has been pretty good so far.
I have found a preceptor for adv health assessment & adults. I also need to find a ped's and women's health.

To all those who were wondering about the program. It has so many glitches and the assignments are pretty unclear, teachers expect somethng different but its not specified, the first class was alright, second class terrible. I'm going to switch to another school at this point as I got accepted into a different school. The program hopefully will improve as time goes on, but at this time I think the general consensus is not very positive at this time from our class. Good luck and maybe it will have improved by the time you all start!
I totally agree 100%. I am currently taking evidence based practice and its horrible. Its like your playing a guessing game with urself.assignments are very unclear and all of the teachers have different expectations. My professor is great but cc I have to email her a thousand times to truly understand the content.its a struggle.just now I just found out i have a paper due on monday which is supposed to be due 2 wks from now. They need to be more clear and all instructors need to be uniform in grading.

Each teacher wants something different and those that are lucky can get a hold of their teacher or their teacher is more cear about their expectations, although the assignments aren't. My teacher is very unclear. The first class was also unclear and confusing but the teacher was good about clarifying and answering questions. This second class the teacher confuses us more and then says we didn't do what she wanted. There is no consistency with grading, she will tell us we did better but give us a worse grade. We have all contacted the supervising teacher and have gotten nowhere. All I can say is I hope my new program is better and Maryville works this out for the new classes.

What school are you going to.I originally wanted to go to Walden but they are not accepting Florida students yet. I have to spend allllllll of tomorrow doing a full blown paper.two more weeks then its all me!

I have been reading this thread for a while and I am waiting to hear if I have been accepted to Maryville for Jan 13 start. Does anyone else who is in the program have anything else to say about it? How's it going? Do you take tests? How many papers have you had to write? What is the reading like? Details please!!!???

There's a huge amount of papers. No tests. Group papers every week, you work on one large project for the whole class throughout the class, little sections are due each week and usually a paper or something due in addition. Then discussion boards every week. There may be tests in Patho, I don't know. There's a lot of reading but I think most people just use it as a reference and don't actually read it all. Hope that helps.

Yes that is really helpful! So do you like the program overall? Did the school assign you into groups to work with on assignments?

Hello everyone, I got accepted to the program to start in the summer 2013. I guess that I need to start preparing myself of the idea of being busy. I am hoping to join your Facebook account. I am very happy to start the program.

Congrats!!!! How long did it take for you to find out?

Hi everyone,
I have applied to Maryville for the Adult NP program and I am still gathering the paperwork for the application packet. I hope to start with the April 2013 class. I would like to stay in touch with you especially once I find out if I get accepted.

I finished the EBP class as well. The class was very busy and at times I was frustrated and tired of it. The syllabus and assignment tables or learning activities for my class were accurate; on the 1st day you will find a table of what is required each week . The instructor used the online class websites home page for "new" announcements, which included what was do that week or what was to follow for the next week.

Advice for EBP/classes: try to work ahead, i.e. discussion boards. I would print off the discussion board questions for every week and I would write out my answer (for the current week of class and the next week) and then, when it was due I would simply type it out (fix or add comments).

The content tab provides information for each week, be sure to look this over.
Be prepared to read many articles---mostly research (EBP class).

Hey does anyone have any info about the requirements for preceptors? I have heard of a lot of people struggling with this. I'm just wondering what is required for a preceptor to become approved by the university. Any info helps, thanks!!!

I am looking around for NP schools and found that Maryville meets all my expectations. Just trying to get any information on how people are doing in regards to full time employment and this program. Is it doable?!

Hi.working FT is doable right taking my 3rd and 4th class with Maryvilleathophysiology and leadership. Patho has A LOT of work and reading.quizzes every week and leadership is kinda confusing since I haven't had a chance to speak with my professor. I love the school and format. Praying I can pull an A for both classes. Clinicals in the summer

Just finalized my application. My advisor said I should hear something within 2-3 weeks. Anxious! Here's praying I get in on the May 2013 class

Thank you for your response. The advisor is so nice and helpful-that has been a big plus. I am currently working through my BSN and loving it. I hope that Maryville accepts me!!

Any news from Maryville? Did you apply anywhere else??

Still waiting, my advisor has been more than helpful throughout this entire process. They said it shouldn't be much longer. Been praying a lot thanks for asking! I'll definitely post the decision once I know. I hope your Bsn is going smoothly!

Oh and no I haven't applied anywhere else at this time. I guess if Maryville doesn't accept me then I'll go ahead and apply to a few other places.

My BSN is going great actually! I am glad the advisor is helpful-I know some of them are less than ideal! I will pray you get in. I am only planning on applying to Maryville and Duquesne University when the time comes. I hope one of them will take me! Keep us posted on your status!

I just found out today I am accepted in the Maryville NP program.

Waiting to hear, should be this week.

I start this summer, is anyone else starting this summer?

Congratulations on the acceptance! I just found out I was accepted for Summer. Very excited to begin this new chapter of life
