Im too scared to take a practice exam while im still doing chapters out of my review books

I understand that but regardless of what score you get you know that it?s only going to go up from there! Don't delay getting good practice of actually taking the test! I believe it's going to be beneficial and help you focus on the areas you struggle on and maybe give you an idea the areas you haven?t covered yet but seem to have a grasp on from ugrad studies and therefore don?t need to cover!

Hi everyone, Just pushed my test date back from 7/6/11!

Me2... im in the same boat as you

I just got my score back, 25P, way lower than what I want/need given by 3.3s gpa but I guess I need tons and tons ofpractice. I'm trying to find examkrackers 1001 passages somewhere but just can't. Does anyone know where i can get a hold of them? thanks

I got mine from overstock.com, sometimes it takes a while for shipping.

I got mine from Amazon, about $80 for 4 books! I have been doing every 5th problem in that book! good luck!

What are you guys scoring on your tests?

What are you guys scoring on your tests?

I'm planning on taking my first full length next Wednesday.. How are you scoring so far? Unfortunately I'm a retaker so I've taken almost all of the AAMC full lengths

What are you guys scoring on your tests?

Take my first one monday, I've only made it through about half of my content review so hopefully I'm come out encouraged rather than discouraged.

no matter what your score is everyone, just keep going! I say we still have some time

nearly one month to go... we can do it!

Yes We Can, guys! I was just mulling over my schedule for next month and it seems like I will start taking Gold standard practice tests from June 30th and AAMC FLs starting from July 11- July 25th, with one day of practice in between 2 tests for reviewing material, mistakes, etc. Meanwhile, till June 30th I may be going over 1001 questions of each subject a day along with 1 passage from 101 EK. What do you guys think about Kaplan practice? Is it any good? I have heard mix reviews and last time i practiced through them, I dont know if they were helpful. Let me know!
Let's kill this!

Hi 7/29ers!
I'm from the 7/28 thread, so I thought I'd stop in and say helllllo and do a little marketing for the Skype group.
I have been with the Skype MCAT study group for a few weeks now, and I have LOVED it. It's great because you can review content with fellow SDNers, discuss questions you may have on a concept, discuss passages you've been stuck on in TBR or EK or TPRH or whatever, and help others benefit from your strengths.
It's all IM-based, so no video conferencing (unless you want to). Our Verbal Subgroup is over audio-chat, but that's just so that you can discuss answers a little more effectively.
Here's a few with some information. If you're interested or have questions, please feel free to PM me. If you are ready to jump in, you can add me (MDminded) and I'll set you up.

I completely ditched ochem... I read half of the first chapter.. I could not get through it.
I just took it last semester and am fairly good at the conceptual stuff like naming, sn1/e1 and all that crap, chirality, stereocrap...
but yeah, i ditched it. I don't think I need to study that much for a subject that is slowly vanishing.

Woo 7/29!
Is everyone/anyone applying this round with this test date? I'm starting to get worried if this test day is too "late"?
Anyways, good luck studying!

yes i'm applying this year.. I don't think it will be TOO late, but certainly not early.. I'd rather apply a bit late with a better score though. Good luck studying everyone!! I am 2 chapters away from being done with content review, woohoo

It depends on when the schools you are applying to starts interviews. If they start interviewing in September then your score will not likely be back in time to be considered for that month. However, one school that I'm applying to starts interviews in October and I was told by the admission coordinator that as long as my score got in before mid-september (tentative score release as of right now - August 30th) that my application would be considered for the interview in October. Thus this is the reason I chose this date; maximize amount of study time while still having everything in for the first round of interviews.

On another note took my first practice MCAT (AAMC #3) today. I took it untimed just to get myself adjusted and skipped the writing sample as I plan on working on that a few weeks out. Regardless I was encouraged with the score as I still have about 1/2 to 1/3 of my review left. Next practice test will be under time constraints!

Yeah guys..are you having trouble just like me balancing the time for MCAT and secondary essay writing? Good luck everyone!

By the way people, there is still 1 month to go. I will highly recommend you buying at least 1001 bio book. It is all passage based with a few free standing here and there, and I think if I had practiced that first time, I would have been better! Just suggesting!
Good luck!

What is your opinion on EK 1001 for physics and gchem? I'm feeling pretty solid with bio but need some extra practice with those subjects.

EK1001 physics and genchem are most similar to doing every other problem in the back of your textbooks. Simple problems. Not passage based. Not too calculation heavy (I go through about one sheet of scratch paper every 100 problems). Multiple choice format. A 2 or 3 sentence explanation in the back for each one.
There is a big difference between studying the subject and studying for the mcat. You say you need extra practice with those subjects, and that is what the 1001 series was designed for.

Could not have said better myself! I agree that they are very simple questions, but they are very concept oriented and I feel like they are definitely helpful for the concepts which you may not understand very well!

Hey all you 7/29ers! I've pushed my test date back twice, and this is my last stand
So I took the free AMCAS practice test this morning (#3) and was surprised at how much easier it was than the Kaplan and ExamKrackers tests I've been doing.
11 PS / 14 VR / 12 BS
Honestly I feel like the things I got wrong in PS and BS were just things I haven't covered in my physics and orgo studying yet... both those courses were a couple years ago and I haven't gone over all the material just yet.
My question is, has anyone done any of the other AMCAS practice tests, the ones they charge you for? I've heard from some people that the higher numbered ones are tougher. I can't afford to buy them all so I'd like to focus on the ones that would be most representative of the real thing.

I would definitely say tack a stab at AAMC 11. I have heard that it is kinda like the real one, especially bio. Last time around when I took, I found AAMC 9 to be interesting as well. Hope this helped.

Congrats on the VR. My highest verbal was a 13 once. I have taken AAMC 3 through 9 already, and I honestly didn't see any difference in either the test or in my performance.
The word on the street is that the (paper) problems in the Official Guide from AAMC are the most similar to the real thing. AAMC11 is the next best. Then 8-10. And finally 3-7, which aren't very representative any more.
FYI if you do buy the official guide they give you a $20 discount on an AAMC test.

4 weeks left!!!

I'm taking the weeknd off to celebrate Independence Day and then it's balls-to-the-wall until the test! Good luck and stay safe this weekend!

Hey all! Thought I was taking the beast on 7/28, but I actually signed up for 7/29...REALLY glad I got that e-mail to remind me of my test date!
I'm starting to feel the time crunch...anyone else with me? I'm super excited for Captain America to come out, but also very cognizant that it comes out ONE WEEK BEFORE THE EXAM OMG

hope studying is going well for you and us all! yea i could def feel the time crunch!! happy about the movie too and a good way to relax before taking the exam. 24 more days left!! i know we all will rock this exam with some solid scores!!

retaking from 5/20 here... bought the TBR books and hoping for a nice 3-5 point bump!

Took AAMC #4 yesterday and it went pretty good. I got the same scores as I did when I took AAMC #3 un-timed except VR dropped 2 points. I think that is expected when taking it under the time constraints for the first time. I'm planning on taking a verbal test (either part of an AAMC FL or EK) everyday up until the test, starting on Monday and expect/hope that to really boost my VR!
How is everyone else's studying coming along?

I've been taking an AAMC a week, I just have AAMC11 and the Official Guide passages left to go. My first AAMC3 was aceptable, and I've been seeing a very gradual upward trend in my scores (like about 2-3 points total). I'm also on week 8 of the EK schedule. I officially finished ochem yesterday!
The final EK week 10 is mostly a break week, so I will spend it going over the AAMC questions I got wrong, and if there is still time I will go over the AAMC questions I got right too.
I haven't had any trouble keeping up with the review schedule. It is mostly a matter of discipline - turning down some offers from friends to go play when I know I should be studying.

I took AAMC 3 on the 4th and I was lucky to get 13/12/12. I've still got a few chapters of BR to read (a few more if I decide to finish the bio, but there's so much detail in that second book!) so I don't think I'll have time to take anything but AAMCs. For those of you who've taken those after #3, what order did you take them in? Are the early ones too old to merit taking?

I'm taking them in order, once a week. The conventional wisdom is
(3,4,5,7) < (8,9,10) < (11) < (Official Guide)
so I figure my tests are getting more and more realistic as test day approaches.

yea, i thought AAMC 11 was closest to the real thing... just don't take it a few days before the test because it won't do much for your confidence hah

Hey Party people...how's it hanging?

Personally, I'm ready to make my physics book an example of projectile motion...Throw it out the window and blatantly ignore how long it takes to hit the ground...

hope everyone's studying is going well.. less than 3 weeks to go, and we are almost done!

Good luck to you too and the rest of the test-takers! Any crazy plans after the exam?

yea good luck/ prayers for us all. i hope we all get into our med school of choice. most important plan is to enjoy the summer!!

Keep up the hard work everyone! These last 3 weeks may be sh!++y but the extra time and work we put in now will pay off so much!! Let's dom this thing!

Yeah guys! I am aiming one FL everyday..I dont know how I will do this! lol..but I got time and nothing better to do, ahah!
I am looking forward to home country about 5 days after my test! Can't wait to be done + Secondaries + Parents + Friends! lol

I need to rock this exam. I sat for the 7/6 exam but was rescheduled due to tech difficulties on Prometrics part. My GPAs are average for accepted applicants, so I just need this MCAT to push me over that hump!

Then the next week I am hopefully going to Warped Tour!! Let's hope that I do well enough on the exam to be able to enjoy the music!!

Hey guys,
Hope everyones prep is going well. I have just started doing practice tests, so far I've done AAMC 3, TPR 1, and AAMC 4.
AAMC 3 (PS/VR/BS) 13/8/13
TPR 1 (PS/VR/BS) 10/9/10
AAMC 4 (PS/VR/BS) 13/11/11
I am not sure if AAMC 4 verbal might have just been on the easier side, leading to me getting an 11, as I was really surprised by that score. The upward trend might be due to the fact that AAMC 3 was my first verbal test taken on the computer. Has anyone else attempted the AAMC practice tests yet, I know these are a better gauge of your actual score. If so, how did you find the verbal sections for AAMC 3 and AAMC 4?

I've done AAMC 3 and 4 and VR is my weakest section and like you I felt like it was somewhat easier than I had anticipated. I'm taking these scores with a grain of salt because the scores supposedly get more accurate with the higher AAMC practice test number.

You are absolutely right. As the number goes up, the hardness goes up. mind you though, AAMC 3 and 4 are absolutely important (at least for me) to gauge the upper end of the score.
Hope everyone's scores are improving! 2.5 weeks!!

AAMC 7: 13, 12, 11
excited, but I think that's pushing the upper limit of what I can do. I'm sure the real thing will be a dose of reality.

Thats a solid score. I think AAMC 7 and 8 are considered to be slightly more difficult than the actual MCAT. I don't think difficult is termed in the sense of the material itself, but maybe the scales are a little more stringent than you will get on the actual test day. Either way, thats a pretty solid score and would suggest you are probably in great shape for test day which is coming up in just over 2 weeks!
